This book is a collection of recipes and related stories of my life of cooking, teaching, catering, travelling, and observing. I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

The idea started with thinking that I should be leaving a legacy for my family of my life’s work in South Africa and France together with my culinary travels. Then stories came to mind of events that I had catered for during the 30 years of my businesses Cuisine Marie Rose and The Provençal Kitchen and other related food journeys. Discretion always prevailed while catering in private homes and far-flung venues: after all, I was invisible – the hired help.
